“The shortest day has passed, and whatever nastiness of weather we may look forward to in January and February, at least we notice that the days are getting longer. Minute by minute they lengthen out. It takes some weeks before we become aware of the change. It is imperceptible even as the growth of a child, as you watch it day by day, until the moment comes when with a start of delighted surprise we realize that we can stay out of doors in a twilight lasting for another quarter of a precious hour.” – Vita Sackville-West
Buhhhhrrrrrrrrr Baby it’s another chilly, blustery Monday morning in South Texas! Friday and Saturday was what we call ‘spring’ weather. I know in most parts of the country spring is a favored season and looked forward too with excitement. Down here spring means, morning & evening clouds, wind and damp yucky icky gross weather. Weather that there isn’t enough hair product to keep your hair looking good. Weather that even though it’s only in the upper 60’s or low 70’s outside you still have to turn on the air conditioner to take the damp out of the air.
About 5 am Sunday a cold front roared through with a little rain and lots of wind and rapidly plummeting temperatures. It sure felt good outside! But when we got up all of the windows inside the house had condensation on them because of the temperature change. You don’t see that often down here.
Lets see, what did we do this weekend………. Well Friday was just an all around crappy day. I had a very frustrating day at work that made me want to bite people (but I didn’t) and Edward had his IPhone lost/stolen. Ugh. He was completely lost without it. I don’t think I could have imagine 10 or 15 years ago how important a cell phone would be in our lives.
When I got home from work we decided the best thing to do was get dinner and a drink or two (for me). It was Edward’s evening to pick so we ended up at Chili’s since we know they have consistently good margaritas.
Saturday started with a trip to AT&T for a new phone for Edward. After a lot of thought and research on his part he decided to bite the bullet and go with the new Iphone 5. As his early Valentine’s gift I paid for part of it too. Boy…..I remember when you could get a phone for .99c…….lol. That sure isn’t the case anymore. While we were there they took a look at our plan and made some adjustments that will get us a lot more date since ‘someone’ (coughmecough) tends to use a lot of data. We will now be able to use our phones as mobile hot spots too which will be a nice bonus!
After that we had someone come to the house to look at our heater which stopped working the week after Christmas. We really don’t use the heater much, just turn it on to take the chill out and then turn it off. But since the forecast was for the weather to turn cold on Sunday it was good to have it fixed.
What he found was scary……part of the heating coil was literally burned apart. I mean, charred. Edward reminded me that one evening we suddenly smelled something electrical burning. We looked around the house and couldn’t find anything and the smell went away quickly. I had forgotten about it. Apparently that was when the heater coil burned up. We are so fortunate that we didn’t have a fire in the house.
Saturday evening we took the grandboys to watch the Corpus Christi IceRays play hockey. It was a really fun evening spending time with the boys. They ate popcorn and french fries and drinks and picked on each other……lol.
Emilio got a t-shirt for dancing during the game even! We had a fun evening with the boys. They had played baseball that day and by the third period were starting to get a little tired. Eventually both boys ended up laying on me. Emilio on my left leg and Edward on the right. I felt like a big pillow.
Sunday Edward said he really wanted to have a day when we didn’t have to do anything. So we basically didn’t. Other than a trip to the grocery store for a big shop on my part we stayed home and enjoyed the nice cool weather. After clouds all day we even got a pretty sunset.
Have a great week everyone and keep warm!
