Friday night we spent at home having a quiet dinner and a couple of cocktails.    It had been a long week and it was nice to just relax!  Saturday we did a lot of errand running and went to see ‘The Descendants’ in the evening.  It was a good movie but certainly not a lighthearted one.  The theatre was packed with old people……Ed joked that they sold a lot of senior discount tickets to that one.

For Christmas Ed’s son Edward and his wife Rosie gave me a gift card to Cracker Barrell so after the movie we went over there.  I hadn’t been inside the store for ages and we spent a lot of time just looking around.  We both decided that we could spend a fortune in that place……I loved everything!!!!  They have a whole bunch of stuff that is just perfect for our beach/fishing themed guest room and several dresses that would be adorable on the girls.

After we got home we started to watch movies……I gave up and went to bed about 1:30 but Edward stayed up until almost 3:30 watching ‘Friday Night Lights’.  When I got up about 3 to let Rascal out (and yes, he came and woke me up instead of just asking Edward to let him out) and told him I couldn’t belive he was staying up half the night to watch a movie he has seen multiple times.

It got chilly overnight Saturday…….it was so nice to snuggle back up to a toasty warm Edward each time I had to get up to let another animal out. Plus since he didn’t come to bed until so late we did get to sleep in a bit on Sunday.  And by ‘Sleep In’ I mean he didn’t wake me up until after 8 am.

Edward worked Sunday afternoon so I had plenty of time to get caught up on housework and organizing.  My BFF from high school and her husband will be in town one night this week on their way to New Orleans so I had to make sure the guest room was company ready.  We last saw them in July when we celebrated our anniversary in San Antonio with them.

The hardest part of Sunday was that I wanted to wash the sheets and when I went to take them off Rascal was already sound asleep in his favorite spot (On Edward’s pillow) and he wouldn’t get out of bed.  So, being the nice person I am, I waited until he finally got up after 3 pm and then finished the laundry. 

This morning I am going to call and accept the job offer I got last week.  I really am excited about it…….not too excited about the drive, which will be kind of long but its an hourly pay raise.  Edward is excited about this job too.   If everything goes well I have to decide when to give notice at my current place.  I’m sure once I give notice I will be done so I am trying to hold off until at least Tuesday but most likely Wednesday.  (( Unless I get completely fed up today and just do it now……lol))

But I can’t stop smiling!

Last weekend was a pretty uneventful one for us.  We went out with friends for dinner and drinks on Friday evening…..I may have had a couple drinks too many which I certainly felt on Saturday morning.  But we had a lot of fun at ‘red solo cup’ night!!!

Saturday was a lazy day at home.  We had offers to do things (including hog hunting……) but decided it was more fun to just do nothing. Movies, projects in the garage, naps….the usual.  Sunday evening we did go see “Red Tails’ at the movies.  It was a really good movie.  We hadn’t been to one in a while so it was nice to get out.

In some (maybe) exciting news I have not one but two job interviews tomorrow.  I’m not sure how I managed to end up with two in one day but I will do my best to shine at both of them.  I’m not even sure I am interested in either job but it’s a start.  At least until my winning the lottery plan comes though! 

I have decided that January has the prettiest sunsets of the year.  Unfortunately, the sun is setting while I’m driving home from work in the opposite direction so I can’t get pictures of them.

Last weekend Mike Adams, the pitcher for the Texas Rangers was in town and spent some time with little Edward’s baseball team.  From the pictures it looks like it was a very exciting time. 

Well I think it’s an early bedtime for us tonight.  All the kitties are already snuggled in ready to go to bed and I think it’s time to join them.

Oh come on…..I haven’t had cat stories in a while now.

I don’t know how it is that cats aren’t considered some of the smartest animals on the planet.  Our’s certainly are.  They each have special talents and quirks but there is no doubt that they are nothing short of brilliant.  I’ve already talked about how Spooky plays fetch but MommaCat has decided to copy her and play fetch too.  Mommacat also gets the ball closer to us.

There is little more exciting to them (except for me coming home and knowing that it’s dinner time) than when we get a roach into the house.  The other night Edward opened the back door and a roach ran in and hid under the bakers rack.  But no fear……the girls immediately went into hunt and play mode and by the next morning there it was……dead in the middle of the floor with the girls looking down sadly because it wouldn’t run anymore.

Rascal will run down the street when he sees the truck coming.  He also knows exactly where he leaves his bird and gets really annoyed when I’ve moved it.

When the doorbell rings Mommacat will jump up and run to the front door.  This impresses me because the ring for the doorbell comes from the hallway by the bedrooms. 

Spooky gets very disturbed by sounds that she can’t identify.  For example, typically my computer is on silent but if I want to listen to something and I turn the sound on Spooky goes crazy.  She will run over to me sniffing and nipping at me as if she is trying to figure out where the voices are coming from.  This happens every.single.time.

So yesterday Edward was working from home in the back office and had his phone on speaker.  Spooky about lost her ever loving mind…..jumping up on the desk and sniffing around trying to figure out where the people were.

Of course on the next phone call Mommacat decided that it was ‘pay attention to her’ time and knocked over everything she could get at.  This included an iron (no idea how she managed to do that) and a box that was waiting to go into storage.   She doesn’t like to be ignored.  Edward wasn’t happy….at all.  (In fact he may have said if I came home and she was missing it was because he buried her someplace)  But Mommacat loves him and by the time I came home from work she was snuggled against him as usual.

Not only have they not taken their lights down, they don’t seem to know how to turn them off.

Our neighbors across the street are an endless source of entertainment for us.  They are a young couple with a two year old son and are expecting another baby next summer.  He has a nice full time job.  They own their home.

Unfortunately, they are incapable of doing anything related to the house on their own.  His dad is worker bee at their house.  Nothing gets done unless Dad comes over to do it.  It bothers Edward to no end that he is unable or unwilling to do anything on his own.

This year was the first year they put up Christmas lights……and by ‘they’ I mean his dad.  There was dad with the staple gun up on the ladder decorating the house for Christmas.  Apparently, it isn’t high on dad’s list to come and take them down and  Jr can’t even figure out how to unplug them so they don’t look like complete morons.

I’m ready to start a neighborhood pool on how long they will be on.  I’m taking Easter………………………………….

So by 4:30 we finally were on the road………2 1/2 hours behind schedule.  It was an uneventful drive and we made it to Utopia safely around 8 pm.  It was COLD when we arrived but the stars were so bright in the sky.  We started the heaters, opened some wine and had cheese and grapes for dinner.

Saturday morning broke with gorgeous clear skies and it warmed quickly to be a beautiful day.  A perfect day.  We had a lazy breakfast and puttered around the cabin.  I read on the deck while Edward worked on a wood working project he had brought along.

One of the things that is wonderful about the cabin is that there aren’t really any clocks.  We can set the clock on the stove but that is the only thing that will tell of the time.  So we can go through the day oblivious to what time it is…..we get out of bed when we wake up, we eat when we are hungry and we go to bed when we are tired.  So much of our lives are spent looking at the clock that it is remarkably freeing to ignore it for a while. 

To take advantage of the lovely day we took a drive in the afternoon.  We started at Lost Maples where we took a hike.  When we had been there in October Edward’s hip was very sore and we didn’t walk very far.  Saturday was exactly two months since his hip replacement surgery and we hike the whole Maple Trail.  It’s rocky and hilly and he did fantastic.

Toward the end of the hike he found a ravine with rocks and he climbed all the way to the top.  I’m fairly confident that his surgeon would have had a coronary if he had see that…….lol.

After getting some exercise we drove to Garner State Park.  It sure looks different in the winter with no leaves on the trees!  Still pretty but very different.  And the water certainly was frio!

Then it was back to the cabin for a romantic celebratory dinner.  Steak,, lobster tail, baked potato and ceaser salad was the perfect way to celebrate Edward’s recovery from surgery and his steady progress on the road to recovery.

Sunday morning we woke to overcast skies and misty rain.  This is a great example of why staying in the cabin is so nice, especially this time of year.  It doesn’t matter at all what the weather is……sunny, rainy, cold, hot……..it’s always perfect weather to be in Utopia.  There were lots of birds outside, including a flock of some kind of blue birds.  I enjoyed listening to the water drip and watching the birds play.

We stayed in Utopia as long as we could…..until the end of the Texans game but finally had to load up and come home.  How I wish we could have stayed longer.  We stopped in Pleasanton for dinner at Chili’s (as is becoming our tradition) and got back to town around 8 pm.

We have tentative plans for our next trip in March sometime.  It can’t get here soon enough for me!

Well, time to get back to the ‘real’ world.  I’d better get some sleep so I can wake up at a reasonable hour.  Sigh…….have a great Monday!

It’s freezing outside this morning!  I was pretty excited that I didn’t have to roll out of bed and head out into the cold.  It was much better to turn on the heater and climb back into bed until the house was warmer.

Just a quick blog this morning……We have errands to run this morning so we can head out to Hill Country this afternoon.  I’m excited!!!!  The weather is going to be perfect for staying in and relaxing.

Silly Spooky hates the cold so she didn’t go out at all last evening, then when we got into bed she decided that she *Had* to use the bathroom.  Like right that very second.  So I let her out and she wasn’t back when I checked again 15 minutes later.  At 4 am when Rascal wanted outside she was curled up in a little ball at the back door and pitched a fit to let me know how unhappy she was that I had left her outside for hours and hours.

For the first time today I can actually say that I feel pretty good…….I’m very thankful that this cold is getting behind me.  Lord in heaven I hate being sick.

Our local NBC station has been locked in a disupute with Time Warner cable.  As a result we haven’t had NBC and several other channels since right after Christmas.  To be honest, with the exception of some football games we couldn’t see (which sucked) we haven’t really noticed.  Time Warner replaced them with a free preview of HBO Family and we are loving that.  We have watched “Incredible Me’ at least 3 times and a whole bunch of other fun movies.

The other day we watched “How To Train Your Dragon” and decided that the dragon they called Toothless reminded us of Spooky.

Happy Monday everyone!!!!  (I’m trying to think positive on the day)

Home is exactly where we were this weekend.  It was an unusually lazy weekend.  This chest cold (or more likely flu) really laid me out flat.  I made it through Thursday and Friday at work on hope and prayer and came home to collapse for the weekend.  I woke up Saturday feeling almost worse than I had the day before and spent the majority of the day on the sofa with my Kindle reading.  (and coughing and coughing and coughing)

The weather was really nice though…..almost 80 both days so that was something.

That thing is about the coolest thing since sliced bread.  It WAY cooler than my smart phone even.  I have read more books since Christmas than I have read in the last year and I love it!!!!!  It’s so neat to be able to jump over and check Facebook or whatever without having to get on my laptop.  Not to mention I can read while laying down.

Edward spent the day tinkering in the garage and working on his next project.  And making faces about the germs every time I coughed…..lol.  He did let me sleep in the big bed with him and snuggled with me so I guess he isn’t too worried about getting sick.

We watched several movies and stayed up pretty late both Friday and Saturday night and slept in late in the mornings.

Sunday Edward went back to work for his first weekend at the store.  It was kind of nice to be in the house by myself and do some cleaning and resting.  And possibly more reading.  At that’s really about it.

Oh wait…..I did fry up a whole mess of fish for Edward for dinner.  That was exciting and I’m getting to be good at frying fish.  It was drum this time and I even made hush puppies and coleslaw to go along with it.

It’s going to be strange to try to work 5 days this week……oh wait, I’m going to do 4.5 days.  I’m going to take off at noon on Friday so we can get an early start to the cabin in Utopia.  It’s supposed to be cool and we can’t wait to relax, drink some wine and watch the deer.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed that my cough is totally gone by then and that Edward doesn’t get sick at all.  I’m sooooo thankful that he got his flu shot this year already.

I have a busy, busy, busy week at work because I had to reschedule so much stuff last week.  I’m going to be running like a crazy person it looks like.   But I’ll keep my eye on the prize of going away with my baby this weekend!  Yay!!!

Its a gorgeous day with bright sunny skies and perfect temperatures.  This first week of  January is getting off to a lovely start here in South Texas!  70 degrees, no humidity and just a light breeze…..it’s spectacular.

It is perfect weather for walking……..Edward is on track for our 2012 goal.  Edward hasn’t let me go out to walk so I’m behind by a chunk. I’m going to have to fit in a long walk this weekend to catch up.  Hopefully my cough will be better by then because I really am anxious to get moving.

I’m still sick, on day six. (Which is about six days too long imho)  I went into work for a few minutes this morning to try to wrap up a couple of pressing things but I’m back home now on the sofa and ready for a long afternoon nap.
